OnePlus recently announced the 5T as its latest flagship handset, and while the phone does have a lot to offer, one area of annoyance lies with the fact that it won’t receive an official build of Android Oreo until some point in 2018.
As OnePlus announced the highly-anticipated Android 8.0 Oreo update is now available for two of its popular flagship: OnePlus 3 and 3T. Two months ago OnePlus released a beta version of Android 8.0 Oreo for OnePlus 3, but the update was available to a limited number of users. However, the company promised to make the update available to everyone by the end of the year.
If you want to know what’s new in the update that’s not usually included in Android 8.0 Oreo, OnePlus published a short list of improvements:
- Update to Android O (8.0)
- Added Parallel Apps
- Added Picture in Picture
- Added Auto-fill
- Added Smart text selection
- New Quick Settings design
- Updated security patch to September
- Added notification dots
- New app folder design
- Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus
In the same piece of news, OnePlus announced that its latest flagship, the 5T will receive a similar update in early 2018. Not many phones even have Oreo, including newer flagships like the Note 8 and LG V30. That gives the aging phone a small advantage over newer devices. Those with the OnePlus 3 and 3T can stay relevant for a little bit longer.
In any case, if you own a OnePlus 3 or 3T, you should soon be able to download the Android 8.0 Nougat update. The OTA (over the air) update is pushed incrementally, so only a small number of users will get it today, but more will capture it in the next few days.
