OnePlus has started rolling out OxygenOS 4.1.3 (7.1.1) over-the-air (OTA) for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones. The update brings with it an upgraded Android 7.1.1 experience for users along with a couple of other features. With the update, OnePlus has added expanded screenshots features and blur reduction while taking pictures of moving objects. Improvements in video stability when recording, Wi-FI connectivity as well as Bluetooth connectivity have been added as well.
OnePlus’ OxygenOS 4.1.3 (7.1.1) OTA is incremental. This means it will be only be rolled out for a small percentage of users initially, followed by a broader rollout in a few days. Other issues that have been fixed include Instagram swiping bug, hardware buttons malfunction bug and general bug fixes. The update also increases system stability. OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users can manually check for the update in the Settings Menu.
OnePlus officially started rolling out Oxygen OS 4.0 with Android Nougat OTA update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones in January. OnePlus is also doing a survey on user experience for the OxygenOS in order to make it better. “For those who were on previous versions for OnePlus 3, we appreciate your active feedback and attempts to reach out to us. With your help, we have been able to better optimize and improve several key areas,” said Tony L., OxygenOS PM, OnePlus.
OnePlus has launched limited edition ‘Midnight Black’ colour option for OnePlus 3T in India. According to OnePlus, the company tested more than 30 color iterations to get the “all-black aluminum unibody design”.
A few weeks ago, OnePlus promised that the first beta build of Android Nougat for the OnePlus 3 would be out by the end of this month. And today the Chinese company has made said build available, narrowly adhering to its self-imposed timeline.
Nougat comes to the OnePlus 3 in the form of OxygenOS Open Beta 8, which can be downloaded by going to the Source link. Note that if you’ve been using previous beta builds for the OnePlus 3, you will not get an over-the-air update to this one. If you want to give it a go, you will need to manually install it.
Aside from the new things that have been packed by Google into Android 7.0, such as a new notifications and Settings menu design, multi-window view, direct replies from notifications, and built-in support for custom DPIs, OnePlus has also added some new features of its own. For example, you get some status bar icon options, quick launch for third party apps, and improved Shelf customization.
Since this is a beta, bugs are inevitable. Since this is the first beta of a new OS version, that’s probably an understatement. OnePlus notes that Android Pay may not work correctly on this build, while stability and performance issues are to be expected. Before you take the plunge and install this release, know that you won’t be able to go back to Marshmallow without having your phone reset. And if you do want to go back, you’ll need to contact OnePlus support to receive a special build of Marshmallow that isn’t otherwise available.
So going this route is undoubtedly going to prove a hassle for many. The good news is that if you’ve waited this long for Nougat to hit the OnePlus 3, you can probably wait another month or so for the final, stable build, which was promised to come in December.
The OnePlus 3 will get updates at the same time as the OnePlus 3T, until the end.
If you’re a newly-minted OnePlus 3 owner ticked off at the sudden appearance of the better, more powerful OnePlus 3T, here’s one piece of solace: the two phones will be updated at the same time (which we already knew), and the original will receive updates for as long as its newer kin.
In a statement issued to Android Authority, OnePlus confirmed that “the OnePlus 3 will continue to receive updates alongside the OnePlus 3T until the newer device reaches the end of its update life cycle.” The life cycle is not clear right now, but OnePlus has committed to keeping its newer-generation phones updated for longer than its 2014 and 2015 counterparts. Indeed, the OnePlus One received Marshmallow through its now-defunct partnership with Cyanogen, while its successor, the OnePlus 2, will get Nougat at some point, but likely not much beyond it.
So that’s good news for OnePlus 3 owners, at least those looking beyond the immediate release of Nougat to the next version of Android, and perhaps the one after that.
Android 7.0 Nougat Update: CyanogenMod 14 Nightlies Available For OnePlus 3 And Other Smartphones
Custom ROM developer Cyanogen have begun releasing its Android 7.1 Nougat-based firmware, CyanogenMod 14 for the OnePlus 3.
Many users prefer custom ROMs like CyanogenMod because they strip away the user interfaces added by device manufacturers and add other exclusive features, which one wouldn’t find on stock Android or OEM firmware.
With CyanogenMod 14, the OnePlus 3 will receive such custom features as status bar clock customizations, brightness control from the status bar, a notification counter, double-tap to sleep and a quick pulldown for settings.
As always, users should exercise caution when installing custom firmware onto their devices, keeping in mind that their warranties may be voided. Backing up your device is recommended. Devices must be rooted in order to install such custom firmware.
The team also recently announced that “nightly” builds of CyanogenMod 14 will soon be available for a number of smartphones. Check out the list below.
Nexus 6P (angler)
Nexus 5X (bullhead)
Xiaomi Mi3w/Mi4 (cancro)
LG G3 (d855)
Moto G variants (falcon/peregrine/thea/titan)
LG G4 h811/h815)
OnePlus 3 (klte/kltedv/kltespr/klteusc/kltevzw)
Zenphone 2 (Z00L/Z00T)
CyanogenMod’s nightly builds are frequently updated versions of the firmware, which include all of the latest updates intended for the ROM, but are highly unstable and often filled with bugs. Many who are tech savvy like to play around with these versions to help pinpoint bugs and issues for Cyanogen to fix in more stable builds.
As the team develops CyanogenMod 14, it will release “monthly snapshot” builds, which roll out every few weeks with various fixes. Once enough bugs are resolved, Cyanogen will release a stable build of CyanogenMod 14.
