HTC is hosting an event on November 2 in Taipei where it is expected launch the next U series smartphones. The expected smartphones include the HTC U11 Plus and the HTC U11 Life Android One.
As we inch closer to the launch event, details on both the smartphones keep emerging. The latest leak reveals tons of details about the HTC U11 Plus, and its possible design as well.
The Taiwanese original equipment manufacturer has been sending invites for its early November happening for several weeks now, fueling rumors that its next Android flagship is soon set to be released and try to succeed where the HTC U11 failed, i.e. attempt to achieve notable commercial success on a global level.
The HTC U11 Life has also been the subject of numerous rumors in recent months and was presumed to be launching alongside the high-end device but Blass’s Saturday comment marks the first time that the upcoming product event was claimed to only be related to the next mid-ranger from the struggling phone maker.
If the HTC U11 Plus truly doesn’t end up making an appearance ten days from now, it’s unclear if the handset will be pushed to early 2018 and essentially serve as an intermediate model between the U11 and U12 or however HTC ends up calling its “true” 2018 flagship.
The company opted for a similar approach this year with the HTC U Ultra, though that particular model didn’t end up performing particularly well and HTC may not bee too keen on mimicking its unsuccessful release strategy.
The U11 Life will presumably hit the market at some point in November and should go on sale in China seeing how that appears to be HTC’s country of choice for unveiling the device. Most of the company’s Android offerings in recent years were also available globally and it remains to be seen if HTC opts to sell the U11 Life on a worldwide level.
As for the HTC U11 Life, the smartphone will run stock Android since it’s an Android One smartphone. Its leaked specifications reveal a 5.2-inch full HD display, and the Snapdragon 660 SoC under the hood. Two possible variants are expected of 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage.
For photography, it will possibly sport 16-megapixel rear and front cameras. More details include a 2,600mAh battery, IP67 rating, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB Type-C port. Its possible pricing is revealed to be $470(€400) which translates to approximately Rs 30,700.
Meanwhile, the upcoming high-end phone has already been spotted on Chinese telecommunications authority TENAA.
Much ado about nothing: the 11/2 HTC event is to launch the decidedly mid-range U11 Life, not the +. Dial back your excitement accordingly.
