OnePlus 5 Launch: 8GB of RAM, Specification, Price | Dual Camera, Clearer Photos

The OnePlus 5 release date has been confirmed by CEO Pete Lau.

The OnePlus founder revealed the company’s next flagship smartphone will launch on June 20th in a tweet.

OnePlus 5 will be unveiled during a keynote that will be streamed across the globe on Tuesday June 20th at 12pm EDT / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST / 7pm EEST.

“Ever since we dropped the news that the OnePlus 5 is on its way, we’ve been bombarded with questions,” OnePlus shared on its forums.

“When are you launching the new phone? Where can I buy it? Does it have *insert feature*?

“We’re excited to announce that we’ll be sharing the answers to these and other questions soon.

“Join us live at 12:00 PM EDT on June 20 for the exclusive online reveal of the OnePlus 5.”During our official keynote, we’ll talk at length about what makes the OnePlus 5 special. But, the celebrations don’t end there!

Ever since we dropped the news that the OnePlus 5 is on its way, we’ve been bombarded with questions – OnePlus

“Following our keynote, we hope to see you at our pop-up events around the globe.”OnePlus has launched a new webpage dedicated to the OnePlus 5 launch that includes the tagline, Focus On What Matters. The tagline seems to be a pretty strong hint at the camera capabilities of the OnePlus 5.The flagship Android handset is rumoured to sport a dual camera set-up, like rival devices from Huawei, LG and Apple.

Earlier this month, a photograph purporting to show the final retail packaging for the OnePlus 5, obtained and published by blog Android Authority, seemingly confirms that the phone will have a dual camera set-up.

“Dual Camera. Clearer Photos,” a tagline on the side of the alleged retail box reads.

The Chinese startup last month confirmed it has been working with DxO to enhance the functionality in its next flagship.

The company posted on its official blog, “We’re happy to announce that we have teamed up with DxO to enhance your photography experience with our upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 5.

“DxO is perhaps most well-known for creating the defining photography benchmark, the DxOMark.

“They’ve got years of imaging experience and expertise, both for professional cameras and for smartphones.

“Working alongside DxO, we’re confident the OnePlus 5 will be capable of capturing some of the clearest photos around.”

OnePlus has also publicly shared a side-by-side comparison of one photograph taken with the OnePlus 5 and one from a rival device.

Elsewhere, OnePlus 5 – the successor to last year’s OnePlus 3T – will purportedly boast a 4,000 mAh battery.

For comparison, Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 3,000 mAh battery cell, and the Galaxy S8+ 3,500 mAh.

OnePlus 5 will have a 5.5inch multi-touch display with a 2560×1440 resolution – a step-up from the Chinese company’s current flagship device, OnePlus 3T, which has a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

Charging and syncing is expected to be handled via USB Type-C

According to the source, OnePlus is “looking at a significantly higher price point due to components and design” – with some whispers placing the next OnePlus handset at as much as $650 (roughly £500).

That’s a significant step-up from the firm’s last phone, which retailed for £399.

For comparison, Samsung Galaxy S8 is available for £689 and the entry-level iPhone 7 will set you back £599.

It’s true that OnePlus has been gradually increasing the price of its smartphones with each new generation – exempt the low-cost and short-lived OnePlus X.

However, this would be the single biggest price bump we’ve seen so far, and it could easily backfire.

While OnePlus has already confirmed June 22 launch date for OnePlus 5 in India, Amazon India has now announced that the smartphone will be exclusively made available for purchase from the website on the very same day. More information was also gleaned from the source code of Amazon’s page, revealing 8GB of RAM on the smartphone. Separately, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has shared a night camera shot taken from OnePlus 5 to show the phone’s optics in low light. Finally, OnePlus has also released a teaser video for smartphone’s India launch and to remind people that it’s last flagship OnePlus 3T received rave reviews from customers and critics alike.

First coming to OnePlus 5 India availability, Amazon India has announced that customers will be able to purchase the smartphone in India exclusively through the website via a sale that would start at 4:30pm IST, on the same day as the phone’s India launch. Those who are interested can also apply for notifications regarding the release from the website’s dedicated OnePlus 5 page. While the teaser page for the phone only mentions that OnePlus 5 features Snapdragon 835 processor, which has already been confirmed by the company, some more information has been revealed from the source code of the page.

“OnePlus 5 powered by 2.35GHz octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor and 8GB of RAM will release on 22 June 2017 as an exclusive at Amazon.in,” was spotted written in the source code of the teaser page by well-known tipster Evan Blass. This line in the source code seemingly confirms that OnePlus 5 smartphone will indeed feature impressive 8GB of RAM. Notably, the flagship smartphone has been previously tipped to feature 8GB of RAM in leaks as well.

Moving on to the camera sample, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau shared a picture clicked by the OnePlus 5 in low-light conditions on Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo. The shared sample looks impressive to say the very least but the image’s metadata has also revealed that the phone comes with a 16-megapixel sensor, GSMArena reports.

Recently, the alleged renders of OnePlus 5 were leaked and suggested that the phone will come with a design similar to that of iPhone 7 Plus. The recent leaks have indicated that the phone will feature a horizontal dual camera setup at the back.

Finally moving on to the teaser video, shared by the company on Tuesday, the company has shared the positive feedback received by its OnePlus 3T smartphone but mentioned that with upcoming flagship, it is “aiming for 5.” The numeral indicates both the 5 star rating aspiration as well is the reference for the OnePlus 5.

We will have to wait for official announcement for further information about the phone but the launch date is not too far away any more. Let us know in comments if you are excited about the upcoming OnePlus 5.
