Pixel/Nexus Devices Getting February Security Patch [Factory Images And OTA Links]

Google has pushed the February security patch out for the Nexus and Pixel phones. Those with a compatible device can head over to the below links and grab either the factory images of the new patch or the OTA Images of the new patch, depending on which type of file they prefer.

That said, both will lead to the same result, which is having the latest version of the Android software installed with the most up to date security fixes to protect against any new vulnerabilities that had come out recently and prior to this patch being initially worked on.

As of right now you can find the new security patch for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, the Pixel and Pixel XL, the Nexus 5X, the Nexus 6P, and the Pixel C tablet.

While this new patch is going to be focused mainly on security, that is, fixing security risks to the Android software, this particular patch should also enable the Pixel Visual Core for some third-party apps on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, which Google announced earlier this morning would start to go live on these two phones. If you’re particularly interested in this, then you’ll want to flash either the factory images or the OTA images.

Of course, you could always just wait for Google to start sending these patches out to users with compatible phones as over-the-air software updates, though it is worth keeping in mind that those updates aren’t likely to go out to phones for at least another day, perhaps a few, so if you want the latest patch sooner rather than later you’ll want to grab the necessary files and manually flash them to your device.

While both the factory images and OTA images will end up resulting in getting you on the latest security patch, one thing worth mentioning is that each file download comes in the form of a ZIP file and both are fairly large in size, with the factory images coming in at 1.6GB while the OTA image ZIP is about 489MB.
