Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus users are receiving a new update, but instead of stable Android Oreo, it is emerging that users are receiving a totally unexpected update.

According to the report, “Smart Switch is trying to revert devices on the Oreo beta back to not just an official build of Nougat, but one that isn’t even the latest Nougat firmware available. The most recent Nougat build for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in India is XXU1AQL5, but according to Smart Switch, it’s XXU1AQK7.”

The update is only available for download via Smart Switch. Up to now, it’s not clear why Samsung is rolling out old software disguised as a “new software update”.

The update weighs about 3GB, which is too big for anyone who is already using Oreo beta. Meanwhile, unless you want to go back to an old Android Nougat build, which means a lot of things including losing all of your data (an update to Oreo will keep your data), our advice is that stay away from Smart Switch and the latest Galaxy S8 update.
